For those of you who wanted a breakdown of last Thursday's routine, here it is:
Squats
- low and slow, arms and toes pointing forward, back as straight as possible
- knee to opposite hand (slow)
- knee to opposite hand (explosive)
Lunges
- same leg on the spot (try with weights)
- alternate lunges on the spot, raising arms laterally
- as above, twisting torso
- walking lunges (this was the killer, but worth investing time into)
Leg Raises
- we did this on ours side. You can free up your hips a little by pushing your backside backwards a little. Make a footsword, and raise the leg, a little higher each time, holding the leg at the height of the raise for a few moments
Slow extension
- execute a pressing kick at knee height and hold your leg in that position. Now pivot through 360 degrees backwards
- try again, but lift the extended leg as you turn (do both sides)
Donkey Kicks
- either adopt a press up position, or take your weight on your forearms as you raise your knee up towards your chest, then fire your heel backwards and upwards in a straight line. Do 8 to 10 reps on each leg
All of the above are ‘Repetition’ exercises… 8 to 10 is a good number to do.
Try doing them as a module once a week to begin.

Thank you for the messages of thanks we have received from parents who supported our first ever Club Tournament.
Much credit goes to club members who helped plan and execute the whole event, but above all we were ALL immensely proud with the way all of our Juniors performed and the dedication they showed to the tenets of TKD in the manner that they reacted to the whole event.
Thanks also go to the parents who assisted and offered to assist on the night, your support too, is invaluable.

The Club now has another four Blackbelts.
Following a thorough grading examination at Weaver's Lane Sports Centre in Wellingborough, we are very pleased to congratulate Curtis Albright, Jake Heath and Kajannanan Kabilan on achieving their Junior Blackbelt status.
We also congratulate Miss Vicky Clubb, promoted to Adult First Degree Blackbelt, Mr Chris Tetstall promoted to Adult Second Degree and Miss Chloe Davies who has become our first student to move from Junior Blackbelt status to Adult 1.5 Degree status. We are proud of EVERY ONE who took part!

The half term holidays may have depleted the size of our team, but it certainly didn't affect the spirit of those who represented their club so well. It was great to hear another Instructor comment that he kept hearing "Wythall Club" during the medal presentation and we did haul eight medals in total (2 x Gold, 5 x Silver, 1 x Bronze). But I can't emphasise enough that everyone who represented us AND who came to support us, were all winners on the day!
A special thank you also goes to Mr Millward and Mr McMulkin for being part of the setting up team on Friday night - and to Mr McMulkin and Mrs Heath for officiating on the day as well.
The competitors were:
Joe Rupp
Liam Barron
Holly Denaro
Jake Heath
Curtis Albright
Sandeep Sharma
Harry Mayall
George Anderton
Alex Turrell
Reagan Jones
Simon Millward
Mr Baker
Mr Heath
Officiating:
Mr McMulkin
Mrs Heath
Well done team!

We finished the run up to half term by making special merit presentations to Juniors from the Coppice classes and the Tidbury Green Club, who we felt had displayed a high level of consistent respect for the five tenets of Taekwon Do. They are:
Jacob Paul
Charlee Cooper
Jordan Arkwell
Liam Barron
Ella Rupp
Rosella Lanza
Holly Denaro
Matt Heath

The thing about small gradings is, that it gives the examiner more time to look at your standards. So, for you to be told that your standards were amongst the best that he has seen on his travels around the country, Master Oldham paid you, and your instructors a massive compliment.
I personally was really proud of you all. As Master O said, there are a few lucky people to whom TKD comes very naturally to, the rest of us have to work hard to achieve our goals... and I particularly want to single out George Anderton along with Robert and Nathan Manchester who started at the club as Rainbows... a long time ago. Just about still Peewee Juniors, all three have put in time and effort outside of the dojang to achieve a very strong performance, in a tough grading. Their success is also a clear vindication of their parents decision to take our advice regarding twice weekly training.
Well done also to all new white belts (including the 'spirit'... little Ella Rupp), that's your first grading out of the way very successfully.
Thanks to Miss Davies and to James Smith for their assistance. You too can take great satisfaction from the praise you received from Master O.
